Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan lost 6-1, 6-2 on his professional tennis debut in the doubles event at the Uruguay Open. Forlan, alongside his partner Federico Coria, were defeated by Bolivian duo Boris Arias and Federico Zeballos at an event in Montevideo. The 45-year-old and Coria received a wildcard to compete at the tournament, which is on the ATP Challenge Tour, a level before the ATP Tour. Forlan and Coria held serve to start the match before Arias and Zeballos captured a crucial break of serve in the third game of the opening set. Arias and Zeballos would go on to take the first set before clinching the second frame in similar fashion to dispatch their opponents in 47 minutes. "I hadn't even imagined, let alone dreamed of this. It's wonderful to have played against professionals. The atmosphere on this court that I love so much was incredible; my friends, my family were here. It was very special, and I enjoyed it. I felt like a tennis player for a moment," said Diego Forlan. Forlan played tennis as a junior before returning to the game following his 20-year soccer career, playing in the Montevideo club league and making his ITF Masters debut last year.
