Officials say Singapore’s Changi Airport will launch automated immigration clearance for passengers in 2024 using biometric data.  Changi Airport, which is often listed as the top airport in the world, serves over 100 airlines that fly to over 400 cities worldwide.  Singapore’s Communications Minister Josephine Teo announced the changes to the Immigration Act in parliament.  "Singapore will be one of the first few countries in the world to introduce automated, passport-free immigration clearance," said Teo.  The use of biometric technology and facial recognition software will “reduce the need for passengers to present their travel documents.”  Biometrics create “a token of authentication,” which will be employed at automated touch points such as bag drop and boarding.  Despite this revolutionary breakthrough in travel, Teo stressed that many other countries will not offer passport-free clearance just yet.
