Scientists from World Weather Attribution(WWA) found that climate change caused heavier rainfall during storms in Africa. Southern Africa was hit by three cyclones and two tropical storms in six weeks. The damage caused by the storms was exacerbated by climate change. According to WWA, there were 230 reported deaths and over one million people were affected by extreme rainfall and floods. How much climate change contributed to the storms couldn't be determined due to the absence of historical records of rainfall. The rainfall associated with storms in this region has become more intense and the damage has also become worse. Scientists are calling on world leaders to increase funding for those affected by extreme weather events driven by climate change. They’re also asking for more scientific resources in Africa so that better records can be kept of the impact of climate change.
