The "floor time" trend has gone viral on TikTok for its calming benefits. Floor time is a therapeutic technique called "grounding." The technique helps you feel connected to the present and push away distressing thoughts. It is also known as the "corpse" pose in yoga. The goal of grounding is to shift your attention to the present. One can do this through mental or physical techniques. Floor time involves lying back and stretching out on the floor for at least 5 minutes, long enough to relax but not enough to fall asleep. If lying on a hard floor is too uncomfortable, you can use a blanket or pillow as cushioning. If you're stressed, "floor time is the ultimate grounding technique," said wellness consultant Daryl Appleton. Appleton explained that "getting on the ground outdoors is even better because it allows your nervous system to recalibrate." Grounding, or as TikTok would call it, floor time, is a great habit to add to your day to relieve yourself of stress and overstimulation.
