Jannik Sinner had moved one step closer to the semifinals of the ATP Finals following his straight sets victory over Taylor Fritz. Sinner, who is unbeaten at the season-ending event, defeated Fritz 6-4, 6-4 to move to the top of the Ilie Nastase group in Turin, Italy. The 23-year-old was forced to defend a break point in the seventh game of the first set, which Fritz was unable to convert. Fritz recovered from 0-40 down to hold his serve in the following game before succumbing to Sinner, who would win the next two games to clinch the set. The second set was similarly close, with Sinner putting the pressure on his opponent to muster a crucial break of serve from a Fritz double fault. Sinner would close out the encounter in front of a home crowd to claim his 67th victory in the 73 matches he’s played so far this season. The world number one will face Daniil Medvedev in his final group game, with the latter registering his first win at the ATP Finals with a victory over Alex de Minaur.
