Putintseva stared blankly at the ball girl, only catching one of the balls on at the third time of asking Social media users criticized the 29-year-old tennis player for her “rude and disrespectful” behavior, as one X user described. The crowd could also be heard booing in the video shared of the incident, showcasing their detest for Putinsteva’s attitude. Her opponent, Jasmine Paolini, ended up winning the match before losing to Karolína Muchová in the next round. Shortly after the match ended, Putinsteva took to her Instagram to apologize, noting that she was "p****d with myself" after losing the point, rather being upset with the ball girl.
