Coco Gauff became the first American since Serena Williams in 2013 to win the China Open title following her 6-1, 6-3 win over Karolina Muchova. The victory, Gauff's eighth on the WTA Tour, makes the 20-year-old the first woman in the Open era to win her first seven hard-court finals. Gauff dominated the encounter throughout, capturing the first set in just 30 minutes, with Muchova unable to match her opponent’s intensity. The 2023 US Open winner struggled with her serve at the start of the second set but recovered from a 2-0 deficit to win six of the next seven games and seal the win. Muchova, who recently beat US Open champion Aryna Sabalenka and Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, clocked 24 unforced errors to Gauff’s eight. “I want to say congratulations to you Karolina. It’s great to see you back on tour. I think you’re such an amazing player and you deserve everything. I think you're such an amazing player—you deserve everything and hopefully you play many more finals,” said Coco Gauff. The triumph is Gauff’s first tournament win in nine months and first under coach Matt Daly, whom she thanked following the final in Beijing.
