Sinner Defeats Medvedev At US Open To Set Up Draper Clash

00:01:10

World number one Jannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev to advance to the US Open semifinals and set up a showdown with Jack Draper. Sinner, who is aiming to capture his first US Open crown, beat the 2021 champion Medvedev 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 at Flushing Meadows. Medvedev, who is also a beaten finalist at the event in 2019 and 2023, was unable to find his best game, hitting six double faults and 57 unforced errors. Sinner capitalized on his Russian counterpart’s underperforming serve to take the first set, with the Italian looking bulletproof on his own service. However, Medvedev was able to break Sinner down in the next frame, going up a double break before tying the match in New York. Sinner was able to bounce back in the following set, with Medvedev only managing to secure one game on his way to a 2-1 deficit in sets. While the final set was more competitive, Sinner was able to break Medvedev’s serve once again and close out the victory in two hours and 39 minutes.
