World number one Jannik Sinner has been cleared of any wrongdoing despite testing positive for a banned substance twice in March. Sinner, who has avoided a ban following the ruling, tested positive for low levels of a metabolite of clostebol, which aids building muscle mass, during Indian Wells. The 23-year-old tested positive for the same substance eight days later, prompting a provisional suspension that was later lifted following an appeal. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found that Sinner was inadvertently contaminated with the substance through Giacomo Naldi, his physiotherapist. Naldi had applied an over-the-counter spray that contained clostebol to a cut on his hand before attending to Sinner, causing the contamination. “I will now put this challenging and deeply unfortunate period behind me. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure I continue to comply with the ITIA's anti-doping program. I have a team around me that are meticulous in their own compliance,” said Jannik Sinner. Despite being cleared of any wrongdoing or negligence at a tribunal, Sinner will lose the ranking points he received during his semi-final run at Indian Wells.
