Alcaraz Mounts Comeback To Defeat Sinner In China Open Final

00:01:24

Carlos Alcaraz recovered from one set down to defeat world number one Jannik Sinner and capture the China Open title.  Alcaraz captured the third set tiebreaker to snap Sinner’s 15-game winning streak and wrap up his 16th career ATP Tour title in three hours and 21 minutes. “It was a really close match. Jannik showed once again that he's the best player in the world, at least for me, the level that he's playing is unbelievable. I had my chances in the first set, didn't make it. But in general I'm proud of myself with the way that I dealt with the match, the way that I managed everything,” said Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz saw his 5-2 first set lead wiped out when Sinner broke Alcaraz’s serve before saving three set points and taking the resulting tiebreak 8-6. However, Alcaraz showed his resilience in the second set, saving two break points before breaking Sinner and clinching the frame 6-3. The world number three started the deciding set strong and had two break points to take a 4-1 lead but was unable to take either opportunity. Sinner responded and was able to break Alcaraz’s serve before taking an early 3-0 lead in the resulting tiebreaker in Beijing. Alcaraz wouldn’t lie down, however, and clinched seven straight points to triumph over Sinner and take a 6-4 lead in the rivals’ head-to-head.
