Alcaraz Triumphs Over Medvedev To Set Up Sinner Finale

00:01:20

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to advance to the China Open final, where he’ll face Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz clinched the win 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 28 minutes, with Medvedev needing two medical timeouts to receive treatment on his left leg. The triumph is Alcaraz’s eighth successive victory since his shock loss to Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round of the US Open. Sinner beat wildcard Bu Yunchaokete 6-3, 7-6 to book his place in the tournament’s final as the world number one looks to defend his title in Beijing. The 23-year-old is competing at the China Open after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed the decision to clear him of wrongdoing after he tested positive for a banned substance.  Sinner tested positive for clostebol twice, which was later attributed to inadvertent contamination from a spray used by his physiotherapist to treat a wound on himself. WADA, who appealed the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, said that the judgment was “not correct under the applicable rules" and believe he should be banned for “between one and two years.” The final will be the 10th meeting between Alcaraz and Sinner, with the former leading the pair’s head-to-head record 5-4 after winning both meetings this year.
