Nadal’s Body “Won’t Allow” Him To Compete In Monte Carlo

00:01:14

Tennis star Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he is set to miss the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters as he continues to recover from a hip injury. Nadal, who suffered the setback at the Brisbane International in January, revealed on social media that he is still not ready to return to the court. "These are very difficult moments for me, sporting wise. Unfortunately I have to tell you that I am not going to be playing in Monte Carlo. My body simply won’t allow me. You have no idea how hard this is for me to not be able to play these events," said Rafael Nadal on X. The 37-year-old returned to the sport in Brisbane after a year out due to injury; however, his most recent knock ruled him out of the Australian Open. Nadal pulled out of the Indian Wells Open last month with the hope he would make his return in Monte Carlo ahead of the clay court season. The 22-time Grand Slam winner noted last May that the 2024 season would be his last after missing Roland Garros for the first time in 19 years. Nadal will be looking for his 15th French Open and 23rd Grand Slam in Paris, with the competition beginning on May 20.
