Naomi Osaka Opens Up About Impact Of US Open Loss

00:01:14

Naomi Osaka has said that her “heart dies every time I lose” after the two-time US Open champion lost her second round match at Flushing Meadows. Osaka, who won the event in 2018 and 2020, saw her US Open comeback halted following her 6-3, 7-6 defeat to Karolina Muchova. “It's a little rough because I do take these losses really personally. It's like a dramatic word, but I feel like my heart dies every time I lose. I've been trying to be more mature and learn and talk more about them,” said Naomi Osaka. After losing the first set, Osaka had three set points in the second frame to force a decider but was unable to capitalize and lost the following tiebreaker. Osaka missed last year’s event after giving birth to her daughter Shai but noted that she doesn’t “feel like I’m in my body” since returning from maternity leave. The 26-year-old, who also boasts two Australian Open titles, returned to the WTA Tour in January but has failed to advance past the quarterfinals in any event this year. Osaka added that despite the early exit at the US Open, she feels “faster” and "better," describing this season as a “learning year.”
