British tennis star Emma Raducanu has been knocked out of the US Open after losing her first-round match to Sofia Kenin. Raducanu, who was defeated 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, was looking for her first win at the US Open since she won the event in 2021 as a qualifier. The 21-year-old noted after the encounter that she wanted to play in more matches in the build-up to a Grand Slam after playing just one tournament since Wimbledon. “I would like to play more matches. I wouldn't probably still play every single tournament leading up, but I would probably play more than I did this time… I know when I have a lot of matches, just like every player, you feel really good, you feel like everything's automatic,” said Emma Raducanu. Raducanu skipped the Paris Olympics as well as events in Cincinnati and Toronto recently, with the Brit managing her fitness following an injury-plagued 2023. The world number 71 returned the tour earlier this year, featuring in the Australian Open before skipping the clay-court season in order to prepare for the grass season. Raducanu reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, a sign that she had returned to form; however, the recent defeat has curtailed her aims of another deep run in a major.
