Murray Begins Wimbledon Farewell With Emotional Ceremony

00:01:14

Andy Murray has begun his farewell at Wimbledon with a defeat alongside his older brother Jamie Murray in the men’s doubles. The Murray brothers were beaten 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 by Australian pair John Peers and Rinky Hijikataon a packed Center Court at SW19. The encounter was followed by an emotional ceremony with a video montage of Murray’s career played on the big screen. “It feels like a good ending to me. Whether I deserve it or not, I don't know. But they did a really, really good job. It is hard because I want to keep playing, but I can't. Physically, it's too tough now. I want to play forever. I love the sport,” said Andy Murray. Former rival Novak Djokovic was courtside with Murray’s family, including his wife Kim and two of his daughters and parents, Judy and Will. Murray is set to participate in the mixed doubles at the event alongside fellow Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu before retiring later this year. The 37-year-old pulled out of the singles event, which he won in 2013 and 2016, on Monday after undergoing back surgery on June 22.
