Zverev Settles Domestic Abuse Case Without Guilt Admission

Tennis star Alexander Zverev’s domestic abuse trial has ended after reaching an out-of-court settlement with ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea. Patea claimed that Zverev had pushed her against the wall and strangled her with two hands during an argument on May 20, 2020. Zverev was later issued a penal order by the Berlin public prosecutor’s office, which ordered the German to pay a €450,000 fine, which he appealed. The trial was held at the Tiegarten District Court in Berlin and began on May 31 behind closed doors at the request of Zverev’s legal team. Zverev’s defense, led by Alfred Dierlamm, claimed that Patea’s accusations were “contradictory in relation to the evidence”. According to Berlin criminal courts spokeswoman Inga Wahlen, Patea had lost interest in pursuing prosecution, prompting the settlement. Both parties agreed to the settlement, which was without an admission of guilt, in order to protect the welfare of their three-year-old daughter.
